Dash- The  Greek yogurt maker does the job so easily

Making Yogurt, Greek yogurt at that has never been easier with Dash, the Greek yogurt maker.

The Dash Greek Yogurt maker
The Dash Greek Yogurt maker is simple to use and store.

When I first bought my yogurt maker, I thought it would be one of those pieces of equipment that will end up in the attic gathering dust. The Dash Greek Yogurt maker definitely is not one of those!

The simplicity of setup, clean up and operation is very comforting.

It comes in 5 parts consisting of the Top lid, inner lid, the strainer, large storage container and a smaller container (plus of course the Dash Greek yogurt maker itself.

Amazon Reviews of the Greek Yogurt maker seem to be in favor of the yogurt maker

“Unprocess your food”

This is the company, Dash’s tagline. The idea is that by making your own Greek Yogurt, you limit the amount of interference that may happen with commercially produced Yogurt.

I highly recommend the Dash Greek Yogurt maker! Here is a review from Amazon that pretty much says it all for me

“I have used several yogurt makers and processes in the past.
Some have not held a consistent temp well. Others do not have timers.
I have used the oven method as well as a water bath in the Crockpot.
With all they were frustrating, difficult for 12 hour + timing. I often like to ferment for 24hrs.
Clumsy storage (for the units with 7+little single serving cups)

All those reasons are why I looked at this Kickstarter project.

Pros.
1. a flexible timer in 30-minute increments
2. auto shut off
3. easy neat stackable storage
4. already comes with strainer no need to buy one or get unbleached coffee filters/cheesecloth/strainer.
5. the right size for me
6. storage for cord
7. easily move the interior container to the fridge without jostling.

Cons
1. Could only buy hot pink on Amazon (More colors now available here.) I would have rather white or something but… it is striking on my counter.
2. Interior containers are not dishwasher safe.
3. The recipe disk is a bit basic and silly. It is however cute and a good way to get started quickly.
I have only used this once and that was with cows milk
3 cups whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1/3 cup dry milk
1/2 cup starter yogurt (Dannon)

This is my go-to recipe for thick yogurt.
In the past when it has come out of other makers it has always been thin. When I took it out of the Dash maker it was nice and thick. When strained it quickly reached the thickness I prefer.
I was also able to get a similar tartness from 12 hours in the Dash when in the past I have had to go with 24hrs.

I attribute this to better temperature control.
